Graduate Student Mike Noss Honored

Michael Noss, graduate student in Prof. Don Berry's research group, has received an SAS Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Graduate Student. Up to ten of these awards are presented annually to graduate students in the arts and sciences in recognition of their contributions to undergraduate teaching.

Graduate Students Honored with NSF Fellowships

Three graduate students from the Chemistry Department received Graduate Research Fellowships from the National Science Foundation. The NSF named 2,000 Fellows from 488 institutions from more than 17,000 nominations. The Chemistry winners are:

Donna Huryn Wins ACS Section Award

Adjunct Professor of Chemistry Donna Huryn has been awarded the 53rd American Chemical Society Philadelphia Section Award. The Section Award recognizes an individual, "who, by conspicuous scientific achievement through research, has made important contributions to man's knowledge and thereby aided the public appreciation of the profession."

Madeleine Joullié to Receive John Scott Award

Madeleine Joullié will be one of the recipients of the prestigious John Scott Award this Friday. The award was founded in the early 19th century by John Scott, an Edinburgh chemist. The first awards were bestowed in 1834. The award is currently administered by the Board of Directors of City Trusts of the City of Philadelphia.

Schelter Group Wins Postdoctoral Fellowship

Associate Professor Eric Schelter has been awarded a Postdoctoral Program in Environmental Chemistry from the Dreyfus Foundation. The award provides a principal investigator with a two year fellowship to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow to perform fundamental research in the chemical sciences or engineering related to the environment.

Zahra Fakhraai Research Featured

Assistant Professor Zahra Fakhraai is part of an interdisciplinary team that received a five-year, $3.6 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop materials for multifunctional coatings on emergency tents, enabling them to manage water, prevent the spread of bacteria and capture and store solar energy.
