Chemical and Nanoparticle Synthesis Core Opens

A new interdisciplinary research center, the Chemical and Nanoparticle Synthesis Core, has been established by the Center for Targeted Therapeutics and Translational Nanomedicine with support from ITMAT (Clinical and Translational Science Award), the Perelman School of Medicine, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the Department of Chemistry.

Professor Benjamin Garcia, Presidential Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics in Perelman School of Medicine, received a secondary appointment in Chemistry. Ben received his B.S. in Chemistry from UC Davis, where he was an undergraduate researcher with Prof. Carlito Lebrilla and was first introduced to the field of mass spectrometry.

David Chenoweth Leads Research for New Patent with Arrakis Therapeutics

Arrakis Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company based in Massachusetts, announced earlier this week that it has agreed to a license agreement with Penn based on research developed by Prof. David Chenoweth and his research group in the area of small molecule drug candidates that directly target RNA.

Jennifer currently studies an area around the development of a mild, photoredox-mediated C-H alkylation procedure of heteroarenes using a wide variety of primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyltrifluoroborates.
