Ahmed Zewail (1946-2016)

The Department of Chemistry is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Ahmed Zewail of the California Institute of Technology. Prof. Zewail received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania while working in the group of Prof. Robin Hochstrasser.

Chris Murray Honored with ACS Nano Lecture Award

Chris Murray, Richard Perry University Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering, has been named as a recipient of the 2016 ACS Nano Lecture Award. Chris will deliver his lecture on August 30 at the ECOSS Meeting in Grenoble, France.

Andrew Rappe Named to Endowed Chair

Andrew M. Rappe has been appointed as the Blanchard Professor of Chemistry. This Professorship, previously held by Larry Sneddon, was endowed in 1907 and the first Blanchard Professor was University Provost (and ACS President) Edgar Fahs Smith.

Biochemistry senior Wesley Peng has received the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF) Rose Undergraduate Research Award for his project under the direction of Prof. William Dailey, “Discovering the Targets of Sevoflurane, a General Anesthetic: A Photolabeling Approach." 

Jessica Anna Receives DOE Early Career Award

Jessica is one of 44 scientists from across the nation to be recognized with this honor. The award program is designed to bolster the nation’s scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during the crucial early career years.

Joe Subotnik Named Guggenheim Fellow

Associate Professor Joe Subotnik has been named a 2016 Guggenheim Fellow.

Since its establishment in 1925, the Guggenheim Foundation has granted more than $300 million in Fellowships to thousands of individuals, many of whom have gone on to receive other major internationally recognized honors and become members of the various national academies.
