Jessica Anna Receives Faculty Fellowship

Assistant Professor Jessica M. Anna, who joined the department earlier this year, has been named an Elliman Faculty Fellow. Created by a gift from David Elliman, C’73, WG’77, and Dr. Andrea Branch through the BAWD Foundation, the fellowships provide startup support for faculty specializing in ways to bring renewable energy sources to market.

The inaugural ACES Program was held on July 19th. The program, which is designed to run several times per year, focused on introducing local students (grades 7-11) to the sciences with a hands-on approach. They had the opportunity to learn hands-on that science is fun!
Feng Gai to Receive ACS Section Award

Feng Gai has been selected to receive the 2014 American Chemical Society Philadelphia Section Award. First given in 1962, this Award recognizes an individual "who, by conspicuous scientific achievement through research, has made important contributions to man's knowledge and thereby aided the public appreciation of the profession."

Amos Smith Honored by ACS

Amos B. Smith, III, Rhodes-Thompson Professor of Chemistry has been named the winner of the 2014 Paul G. Gassman Distinguished Service Award. The award, sponsored by the Division of Organic Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, was established in 1994 to recognize outstanding service to the organic chemistry community.

Joe Subotnik has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. Joe's group focuses on three different areas in chemical physics: electron and energy transfer, molecular conduction, and electronic structure theory with an emphasis on excited states. Joe joined the department in 2010.

Jeffery Saven has been promoted to the rank of Professor. Jeff's group uses primarily theory and computation to study biomolecules, polymers, and condensed phase systems. Most of the research involves the application of statistical mechanics to liquids and macromolecules. Jeff joined the Chemistry Department in 1997.
