Chemistry Students Honored

A number of exceptional Chemistry graduate and undergraduate students were honored at the Department's annual awards ceremony on April 30. The highest honor that the Chemistry Department bestows on a graduating PhD student is the John G. Miller Award. This year's award went to Jacob Goldberg of the Petersson group.

Madeleine Joullié to Receive Honorary Degree

Professor Madeleine Joullié will be receiving an honorary degree by Simmons College's 109th Commencement on Friday, May 9 in Boston for her remarkable career as an internationally recognized scholar and a champion of women in the field of chemistry. Madeleine received her BA degree in chemistry from Simmons.

Professors David W. Christianson and Daniel J. Mindiola were elected Fellows of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The Royal Society of Chemistry is the largest organization in Europe for advancing the chemical sciences and traces its roots to the Chemical Society of London, established in 1841.

Marsha Lester and Larry Sneddon honored in Dallas

Marsha I. Lester, the Edmund J. Kahn Distinguished Professor, and Larry G. Sneddon, the Blanchard Professort of Chemistry, were both honored with national awards at the ACS meeting. Marsha was awarded the Francis P. Garvan-John M. Olin Medal, which recognizes distinguished service to chemistry by women chemists. Larry received the F.

Associate Professor Elizabeth Rhoades (Yale) will be joining the Department in July 2015. The Rhoades lab studies protein folding, misfolding, and dynamics.
Neil S. Tomson, currently at Los Alamos National Laboratory, will join the Department at the same time as an Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry.
