Jessica Anna Receives DOE Early Career Award

Assistant Professor Jessica Anna has been named a recipient of the U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Award. Jessica is one of 44 scientists from across the nation to be recognized with this honor. The award program is designed to bolster the nation’s scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during the crucial early career years.

Marsha Lester & Andrea Liu Elected to National Academy

Marsha I. Lester (Edmund J. Kahn Distinguished Professor and Editor of The Journal of Chemical Physics) and Andrea Liu (Hepburn Professor of Physics and Secondary Appointment in Chemistry) have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Marsha and Andrea are among the 84 new members and 21 foreign associates from 14 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

We are excited to announce that the fifth ACES program is set to take place on May 21, 2016! This program is designed for 3rd-8th grade students and led by graduate students in the Chemistry Department at Penn. By performing hands-on activities with the kids, we hope to get the students interested in science while learning and having fun!


Judith Currano honored by SLA

Chemistry Librarian Judith Currano has been named the recipient of the 2016 SLA Rose L. Vormelker Award by the Special Libraries Association. The Vormelker Award honors SLA members who have actively worked to teach and mentor their fellow librarians and students.

Mindiola Group Highlighted in Science

Research by Kyle Smith (of the Mindiola Group), Simon Berritt, director of the Chemistry HTE Facility, and collaborators on the borylation of methane has been featured in Science. Joe Subotnik Named Guggenheim Fellow

Associate Professor Joe Subotnik has been named a 2016 Guggenheim Fellow.


Since its establishment in 1925, the Guggenheim Foundation has granted more than $300 million in Fellowships to thousands of individuals, many of whom have gone on to receive other major internationally recognized honors and become members of the various national academies.
