Neil Tomson Awarded Grant

Assistant Professor Neil Tomson has been awarded a New Investigator Grant by the Kauffman Foundation for research on “Coordination chemistry and catalysis using molecular-scale electric fields”. The grant is part of $1.8 million in grants awarded to support basic research in biology, chemistry and physics by the Charles E. Kaufman Foundation, one of The Pittsburgh Foundation’s charitable entities.

Title: Ultrafast vibrational spectroscopy of ionic liquids: Insight into carbon capture, chemical reactions, and energy storage

 

Abstract:

 

Ahmed Zewail (1946-2016)

The Department of Chemistry is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Ahmed Zewail of the California Institute of Technology. Prof. Zewail received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania while working in the group of Prof. Robin Hochstrasser.

 

Prof. Zewail was awarded the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry.
