Penn Chemistry: Laser Facility

Laser Facility

The Laser Facility, funded through a resource grant (P41GM104605) of the National Institute of Health, consists in its main part of several ultrafast laser laboratories based on Ti:sapphire technology and optical parametric amplifiers for the generation of ultrafast infrared laser pulses. These setups are used in the development and applications of two-dimensional infrared (2D-IR) spectroscopy and transient 2D-IR spectroscopy. The facility is equipped and staffed to provide instrumentation, expertise and training opportunities in ultrafast laser technology to collaborators and users. This includes techniques such as multi-dimensional infrared spectroscopy, pump-probe spectroscopy, optical triggering and T-jump experiments, lifetime measurements, and fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy, providing opportunities to research primary biophysical processes and protein structural dynamics.

The Director of the Laser Facility is Prof. Feng Gai and it is staffed by Dr. Thomas Troxler and Dr. Jianxin Chen.
