Resolving Interfacial Dynamics in the Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell



Our program has developed a series of cyclometalated ruthenium complexes to accomplish the requisite light-absorption and charge-separation events in the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). This class of molecules offers a distinct advantage over conventional dyestuff because they offer the unprecedented ability to tune both the ground- and excited-state reduction potentials. This presentation will detail how the careful design of these compounds has enabled us to resolve keyreaction steps (e.g., dye regeneration, recombination, back-electron transfer) in the DSSC.
