General Chemistry Placement Exam

 

Chemistry Placement Exam Schedules and Online Registration:


The next opportunity to take the Chemistry Placement Exams will be during the first week of the spring semester. The exact date will be updated on this site when it is finalized. Register for the exam here.  A limted number of extra exams will be available for walk-ups. If you plan to walk-up remember that you may only bring a *NON-GRAPHING* calculator and that relevant reference materials (forumulas, et. al) will be provided to you at the exam. 

 

Please note: If you have already taken a placement exam and did not pass you may NOT retake the exam.

Preparing for the Chemistry Placement Exam:


These exams will cover material from Chem 101 and 102 at the same level of difficulty as presented at Penn.


The exam questions will range from concept-oriented to problems requiring a specific numerical solution. Although there may be some "multiple choice" questions, many problems will not be multiple choice and will require all work to be written on the exam.

 

Please be sure to bring a non-graphical calculator.

To prepare for the exams you should review material from the following text:

 Zumdahl: Chemical Principles - 8th Edition

 

Chem101: Chapters 1 through 5, 12, 13, 14, 16.
Chem102: Chapters 6 through 11, and 15.
