Research Statement
Primary interests are the synthesis, properties and applications of organofluorine compounds and fluoropolymers. This includes improving syntheses of existing fluorinated monomers and polymers and developing new structures for applications in electronics, optics, membranes separations and surface treatment. A key issue is understanding the structure/property relationships in fluorinated polymers and using this understanding to design new structures with minimum fluorine content while retaining their unique surface and bulk properties. The unusual reactivity of organofluorine compounds is used to construct novel monomers and modern polymerization methods, including controlled free radical and microemulsion polymerizations, are used to generate new polymer structures.Education and Academic History
