Research Statement
Our research group is interested in the areas of reactive intermediates, fluorine substituent effects, novel strained-ring compounds including strained-ring nitro compounds, mechanistic chemistry, matrix-isolation chemistry, and computational chemistry. We incorporate ab initio molecular orbital calculations as well as synthesis and mechanistic studies into the majority of our projects.Current interests include the synthesis and reactions of fluorinated cumulenones, generation, reactions and direct spectroscopic observation of carbenes and other reactive compounds under matrix isolation conditions, synthesis of strained caged-ring compounds, and the preparation of new fluorinated materials.
